hmmm

Personally, I've found theres two different ways to do it:
The masochist's way (the way I learned it) and the easy-as-hell way.

I've used my amazing paint skills to fabric something in an already existing picture.
Basically, the picture shows the range on the blades (as you probably know, every member of the raid must be in either one of the 'safe' zones, or the flames will enrage).
I've added the RED kiting path (masochist's way, way too little space to move around with blazes, eye beams are hard to avoid), starting at the red circle and repeatable once you get back there.
I've also added the YELLOW kiting path, which is ridiculously easy, both in concept as in practice! It makes avoiding eye beams really easy and you'll hardly ever stand on blazes.

Good luck learning!

Kiting pattern is hard to learn if you have never seen the place before, but very easy once you nailed it. I do it almost weekly since im there on almost all Illidan whacks. Anyway.

Illidan isnt pulled until you speak to Akama, so theres plenty of time to "practice" on an empty place. Im %*%@ at explaining, but here goes.

Illidans room consist of 3 "circles" in the middle. Circle one is the grate in the very middle. This is where we have our dps standing, in 4 groups total. 3 with ranged / healers, 1 with melee. They stand so they are all on top of each other, all are inside the grate, and none of the 4 groups are ever within 5 yards of each other.
Circle number 2 is the small band, a good 2½ druids thick that runs around the grate. The flame itself should never leave this area.
Circle 3 is outside circle 2 and is just used for explanations.

Upon reaching phase 2, Illidan will throw his 2 glaives to the ground and the flames spawn. Assign one tank to just tank, and assign another tank to make loads of threat, as his flame will die first. All hunters should MD this tanks flame onto him. Have the melee initial position next to the flame that dies first, if kited properly they can hit it for quite some time.

WHen it starts, this is what I do. Pick it up, move backwards until you reach a "marking" on circle number 2, its aproximately 60 degrees in the circle from where you pick it up - moving away from where Illidan initially stands. Place your flame on the exact outer corner of the circle, so that the flame stands on the "line" marking in the circle. Soon he will do his first fire burst, leaving a big pile of green fire on the ground. This hurts. A lot. This is where you move slightly back towards your initial position. DOnt move too far - only move so you are just out of the fire on the group. Keep the flame inside circle number 2 - you yourself can stand outside circle 2 with no probs. Keep kiting like this until you reach the "marking" on the other side of circle 2, this is aprox 120 degrees from where you started your kite. Now, wait until theres a flame thingie, then swiftly drag the flame back to the position you started the ktie at, rinse and repeat.

Eye beams should be called on a voicechat. Whatever you do, avoid it. If it means taking more fire damage from the %*%@ on the floor, if it means breaking your kite path. Do not get hit by it, it will one-shot you.

I recommend this video too, it more or less taught me how to do it:

The spellreflect of the blue flames no longer works though.

best of luck on Illidan :)
